Last year I migrated to Australia from the UK where I had been contributing into two personal pension funds for about 25 years. For 10 years our only savings, apart from superannuation was money invested in a managed fund for our son’s education. The fund was performing poorly and fees taken out as well this meant that we were really going backwards with returns of only a few percent. Although I earned a good salary and we had not debts, my wife and I found it difficult to save, and there was little cash left at the end of each month.
